Barcelona have been in discussions with Manchester City over a deal for Bernardo Silva but the LaLiga giants can only afford to sign the Portugal midfielder if they sell Frenkie de Jong, according to reports.
Barcelona have been long-term admirers of Silva but they still find themselves in a precarious financial situation – needing to offload players before they can bring anyone new in.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Silva was the main name mentioned by Xavi when Barcelona met with Jordge Mendes on Thursday evening to discuss potential transfers.

Xavi is said to be an admirer of the 27-year-old who has been plying his trade at Manchester City since 2017. However, the club face an uphill battle to sign him this summer.

However, Barcelona are still struggling economically after years of financial mismanagement under their former president Josep Bartomeu and his predecessors.

Guardiola is said to be a big admirer of the former Ajax midfielder and Sportsmail previously revealed that the former Barcelona coach personally called the Dutchman in 2019 to try and convince him to sign for City.
However, the young Holland international – whose reported value is around £65million – has also picked up interest from City’s Premier League rivals – Manchester United.
