Barcelona reportedly want Ilkay Gundogan to decide his future as a matter of urgency and are apparently expecting an answer today, following the conclusion of Manchester City‘s Treble celebrations.

The City captain’s contract at the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup winners is set to expire this month and he is wanted by a host of European clubs.

Gundogan revealed after securing City’s first Champions League title in Istanbul on Saturday that he still hasn’t made a decision on his next career move, but Barcelona reportedly want an answer today, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The German international has been offered a contract extension by City and has garnered significant interest from both Barcelona and French side Paris Saint-Germain.

Lionel Messi’s rejection at the chance to return to Barcelona in favour of a move to MLS side Inter Miami means the Spanish giants reportedly have immediate funds available to register new players.

The club has been in financial turmoil over the last year and in March they were hit with a corruption lawsuit dating back to 2018.

Barcelona must meet LaLiga’s strict financial rules to be able to register new players and are apparently in a position where they can sign Gundogan without delay.

The LaLiga champions are reportedly prepared to hand the 32-year-old midfielder a three-year contract, whereas City’s proposed offer is expected to be shorter.

Gundogan starred during the end-of-season run-in for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring crucial goals in the Premier League title race, bagging twice in the FA Cup final and leading the Sky Blues to Champions League glory.

Speaking about his future after City’s season-defining win in Istanbul, Gundogan said: ‘We knew everyone was talking about the Treble, especially after the FA Cup.

‘The pressure was there but this team is built to handle the pressure in best possible way.

‘In the Champions League final it will always be difficult for both teams. We weren’t at our best in the first-half. We were hesitating. We had some good chances but knew we had to do better in the second, which we did.

‘It was probably a 50-50 game in which one goal made the difference. We are very fortunate it was for us.’

Barcelona may have to wait longer than Tuesday to receive an answer from Gundogan given his involvement in City’s title celebrations that concluded on Monday.

Gundogan and his team-mates partied long into the early hours of this morning after their open-top bus parade through Manchester that thousands of supporters turned out in the rain for.
