Fowler was recently crowned Australia’s PFA Young Women’s Footballer of the Year and was runner-up for NXGN Football’s 2022 Women’s Next Generation shortlist.

The electrifying forward has amassed 24 caps for the Matildas, bagging seven goals – including the long-range strike which helped clinch a 4-3 win against Great Britain in Australia’s Tokyo Olympics quarter final.

‘I’m really excited and proud to be joining this club – it’s a team that I’ve always wanted to play for, so I’m honoured to have this opportunity,’ Fowler said of her big move.

‘As much as I love winning, I enjoy doing it while playing attractive football and that was a huge part of my decision to join.

‘I really admire the team’s style of play – when City play, you see football and how beautiful it is, and you can really fall in love with the game just by watching them, both the women and the men’s teams.’

Fowler’s family has a growing football history, as her brother Caoimhin and sister Ciara have also represented Ireland, from their father’s heritage.

In the 2019-20 W-league season, Mary and sister Ciara both made their debut for Adelaide United, and she scored a goal in her first outing for the club.

City coach Gareth Taylor said he is excited to work with such a skilled prospect who is only beginning her career.

‘Mary is a without doubt one of the most exciting young talents in the game right now and we’re absolutely thrilled to have her join us here at City,’ Taylor said.

‘Having her put pen to paper on a four-year deal also speaks volumes about our own commitment and also ours as a club to her development, and we can’t wait to start working with her.’

At 15 years and 162 days Fowler ran out for her maiden Matildas cap, becoming the fifth-youngest player in the team’s history, just 16 days behind Sam Kerr.

Fowler’s rise to football fame has been attributed to her crazy speed, strong ball control and playmaking creativity.

She posted her Man City move to Instagram with the caption: ‘So excited for this next step in my journey’.

While it is not known how much Fowler will be earning, the top-tier women’s Super League players earn as much as $440,000 year.
