Atletico Madrid’s La Liga titles hopes dealt a blow as Diego Simeone’s camp the latest hit by Covid-19
Atletico Madrid have been dealt a blow on the personnel front, after a pair of the club’s stars returned positive tests for Covid-19.
Covid cases
Los Rojiblancos have of course proven the standout side in Spanish football to this point in the campaign.
Simeone and co. have racked up wins in all but 3 of their 18 La Liga outings thus far, whilst allowing just 8 goals to pass the superb Jan Oblak.
Such fine form, in turn, has seen Atletico open up a 7-point lead atop the Spanish top-flight, with Real Madrid’s shock defeat at home to Levante earlier today having only seen their city rivals slip further off the title pace.
As outlined above, though, on Saturday, the Madrid giants having been dealt a pair of concerning blows on the personnel front.
This comes with Yannick Carrasco and Mario Hermoso, both of whom have played starring roles of late, having returned positive tests for Covid-19.
Atleti confirmed the news in a post across the club’s social media platforms, with Carrasco and Hermoso having now entered respective periods of self isolation:
Our players @CarrascoY21 and @mariohermoso5 have tested positive for COVID-19.
They’re isolating at home, in compliance with the health authorities’ guidelines and LaLiga protocols.

Cadiz clash
News of the Covid outbreak in the Spanish capital comes with Simeone’s men set to return to action in less than 24 hours’ time.
Los Colchoneros will make the trip to the Estadio Ramón de Carranza, for a La Liga meeting with Cadiz.
A victory for the visitors in Andalusia would of course see Atletico move a full 10 points clear of 2nd-placed Real at the summit of Spain’s top tier, with their travelling squad for the clash showcased below:
