Aston Villa are close to signing Youri Tielemans on a free transfer from Leicester – with Belgium midfielder set to undergo a medical this weekend
- The Belgian was available following the end of his spell at relegated Leicester
- The 26-year-old is undergoing a medical before signing a contract at Villa Park
Youri Tielemans is finalising his move to Aston Villa after leaving Leicester City as a free agent.
Villa coach Unai Emery spoke to Tielemans early last week to convince the Belgium international of the role he would play in his plans going forward.
Villa, who are exploring the possibility of bringing in Sevilla recruitment guru Monchi, are ambitious to build a squad that can challenge consistently for European places and are determined to arm Emery with the quality of players he needs.
The 26-year-old Tielemans had plenty of interest as he has vast experience in the Premier League and on the international stage.
Tielemans is due to undergo a medical over the weekend ahead of finalising terms.

Villa want to strengthen throughout their squad and are also keen on Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney and want to strengthen their wing options.
Tielemans joined Leicester from Monaco in January 2019, initially on loan, before making a permanent switch that summer following a £32m move.
The highlight of his time at the King Power Stadium was scoring the winner in Leicester’s FA Cup final win over Chelsea in 2021, one of 195 appearances that the Belgian made for the Foxes.
After confirming his exit from Leicester, Tielemans wrote on Instagram: ‘I’m bidding farewell to this incredible club. I am forever grateful for your support.’
