Arsenal & Tottenham go head-to-head in late window striker swoop
Word stemming from the Spanish media late on Sunday suggests that both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are expressing a keen interest in the signature of Alvaro Morata.
The info comes courtesy of Diario AS, who point towards the thinning options available to both north London clubs, amid a desperate scramble to secure attacking reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut.
Arsenal are understood to be particularly keen, with Miguel Molina, assistant to Mikel Arteta at the Emirates, having already made contact with the hitman, currently on loan at Juventus from Atletico Madrid.
Morata, for his part, is said to have ‘listened with interest’ to the proposal, but views it as unlikely that a deal to send him back to the Premier League will ultimately be struck.
This comes owing to the lack of time remaining in the window.
In turn, the most likely outcome, as things stand, remains one where Morata stays put in Turin for the remainder of the campaign, and both Arsenal and Spurs are forced to look elsewhere in their respective striker searches.
Auba on the way out
Arsenal’s rumoured interest in luring Morata to the Emirates ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline would certainly appear to line up with the latest word surrounding current Gunners attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
As confirmed by a number of reliable sources on Sunday, Auba, out-of-favour under Mikel Arteta in north London owing to a disciplinary breach, is on the verge of a move to La Liga.
The Gabonese international is expected to be announced as a new member of Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona squad at any moment, before spending the 2nd half of the campaign on loan at the Camp Nou.
🚨 EXCL: Barcelona nearing agreement with Arsenal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang loan until summer. Main issue to resolve is salary. Would be major saving for #AFC but no loan fee or buy option/obligation. No incoming deals close @TheAthleticUK #FCBarcelona https://t.co/D8Xj4gy7UC
