Arise: A Simple Story Launches 28th April On Switch With Exclusive Features

Bittersweet. Emotional. Memorable. Those are just three words that our sister site Push Square used to describe Arise: A Simple Story in their review of the PS4 release. And now, us Switch owners will get to experience the game for ourselves as Piccolo Studio and Untold Tales are bringing an updated version of this beautiful narrative tale to the hybrid console.

Arise: A Simple Story – Definitive Edition is a complete version of the 2019 game with a few Switch-exclusive bonuses to enjoy. These additions mainly focus on showcasing the game’s beauty, and these include:

  • +50 Page Digital Artbook
  • 18 Track Original Soundtrack
  • Custom Photo Mode
  • Gyroscope Support

With no voice acting or text, the entire game’s story is told through evocative and ethereal imagery, with music used to enhance the atmosphere and your emotions. This minimalist approach, the use of colour, and the environmental design of Arise is just stunning, and we can’t want to give it a go on Switch.

You can get a brief glimpse of these new features in the trailer at the top, but if you want to know more about the game itself, then we’ve got a summary for you straight from the press release:

Arise: A Simple Story is a critically acclaimed 3D time manipulation narrative adventure. Embark on a journey about happiness and hardship, joy and sorrow. A story that all of us will one day experience – the loss of our closest loved ones and how we remember them.

Manipulate time, solve puzzles, and reshape surroundings as you push forward into the bittersweet recollections of a past life and see how one’s life can be shaped by the presence of a soulmate. Each level is a metaphorical representation of the stages of life and how our memories shape these recollections.

Arise: A Simple Story – Definitive Edition launches next Thursday, 28th April, on the Switch eShop for $19.99 / £17.99. Even better, the game will have a 50% discount when it first hits the store, so if you’re interested, there’s no excuse not to pick up this game and immerse yourself in this gorgeous world and the heart-breaking, life-affirming story within.
