The 23-year-old thinks Spurs will be awkward opponents, coming into the game on the back of a 6-1 thumping at Newcastle United but then changing interim head coach, with Ryan Mason replacing Cristian Stellini.

“Well, it’s a new story,” he explained. “They might have suffered a heavy defeat but each game is a completely new story. We are going to have to work hard in this game to get the three points.

“We know of our own quality and we are ready and able to consider that we could mount a challenge for the Premier League title [next season]. It’s very important for us. This season, we have shown what we are capable of. It’s a season of adaptation, we’ve had a new manager and new players.

“When everything settles in, we should hopefully be in a position to battle for a title [in 2023/24].”
