Angelino is set to return to Manchester City from RB Leipzig this summer

Manchester City defender Angelino will return to the Etihad when his loan spell with RB Leipzig finishes at the end of the season.

The left-back joined the Bundesliga club in January and has impressed so far, scoring once in 12 appearances for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

Leipzig have the option to sign Angelino permanently for around £25million this summer, but it appears they will allow him to return to England.

Nagelsmann says the club must respect their budget and will only spend big this summer if they sell players – even if they reach the Champions League again.

‘I think we’ll manage to get into the top four this season and gain Champions League qualification,’ he told Bild.

‘Even if that does happen, I believe we probably won’t purchase [Patrik] Schick and Angelino. We cannot waste resources, even if we do qualify for the Champions League.

‘We have a rigorous plan and a budget that has to be respected. If we don’t sell players, it’s unlikely we’ll be able to bring in new ones.’

Angelino returned to City last summer after they exercised a £5m buy-back clause in the deal which took him to PSV in 2018.

He was shipped out on loan to Leipzig after struggling to get ahead of Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
