Ange Postecoglou is expected to shun Leicester’s attention with the Australian fully focused on his Celtic job and the chance to complete a domestic treble.

The Foxes sacked Brendan Rodgers on Sunday after a last-minute defeat to Crystal Palace the previous day left them in 19th place in the Premier League and in genuine danger of being relegated.

Along with former Chelsea boss Graham Potter, who was sacked a few hours after Rodgers, Postecoglou has emerged as one of the candidates to take over at the King Power Stadium.

But according to the Daily Record, the former Socceroos boss has no interest in moving south of the border for the time being and remains fully focussed on leading Celtic to their first domestic treble in three years.

At evens, Potter has been installed as the favourite to replace Rodgers by Paddy Power, followed by Brentford boss Thomas Frank and Postecoglou at 12/1 and 14/1 respectively.

Postecoglou won the Scottish Premiership and League Cup double in his first season with Celtic and has already successfully defended the latter, with the Hoops beating Rangers 2-1 in the final in February.

Following Celtic’s triumph, Postecoglou dismissed rumours he could leave Parkhead this season.

‘When people say ‘he’s going somewhere else the first offer he gets’ – it’s not how I’m wired, it’s not how I think,’ he told The Scotsman.

‘For me, what it’s about is just trying to leave a mark wherever I am.

‘I have done that with every football club I have been at, that is what consumes me. I don’t think about the next step.’

Celtic have won 28 of their last 29 domestic matches and are on the verge of claiming a second consecutive league title as they sit nine points clear of their Glasgow foe at the top of the table with eight games left to play.

The Bhoys could all but wrap up the title if they beat Rangers on Saturday, with the Old Firm rivals also colliding in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup at the end of the month.

Aside from the prospect of sustained success at Celtic, the Daily Record also noted Leicester’s finances could scare off Postecoglou.

The Foxes posted record losses of £92.5million ($171million) and could lose several key players at the end of the season, with Youri Tielemans expected to leave as free agent.

The path from Parkhead to the Midlands is the one Rodgers walked back in 2019, when he left Celtic after seven trophies in three seasons to take over at Leicester midway through the Premier League season.

He guided the Foxes to back-to-back fifth pace finishes in his first two full seasons in charge, lifting the FA Cup and the Community Shield in 2021.

But over the last 18 months, Rodgers failed to replicate the success of his early days at Leicester and the club felt it had to act over the weekend.

‘It had been our belief that continuity and stability would be key to correcting our course, particularly given our previous achievements under Brendan’s management,’ Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said in a statement announcing Rodgers’ departure.

‘Regrettably, the desired improvement has not been forthcoming and, with 10 games of the season remaining, the Board is compelled to take alternative action to protect our Premier League status.’

Meanwhile, Sportsmail understands Leicester are now interested to find out Potter’s immediate plans

It’s still unclear whether the manager would want to jump straight back into action after the blow of being sacked by Chelsea seven months into his five-year deal.

Leicester are back out on Tuesday evening (Wednesday morning AEDT), when they play Aston Villa at home.

First-team coach Adam Sadler and goalkeeping coach Mike Stowell will take charge for the crucial clash.
