An eventful first half leads to a 1-1 draw for Charlotte FC against Vancouver

After a hard-fought match from both sides, Charlotte FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps drew 1-1.

Charlotte had a handful of opportunities to score early on with Jere Uronen not getting enough power on a shot that was saved, Iuri Tavares heading the ball following a corner that was saved and Enzo Copetti being awarded a penalty that was overturned following a VAR review.

Charlotte got on the board first with Tavares scoring his first MLS goal. A great team effort pressing Vancouver led to the goal, with Ashley Westwood winning the ball and passing to Brecht Dejaegere, who passed the ball into the box where Copetti let the ball go through his legs, leaving it for Tavares who put it past the keeper to give Charlotte the 1-0 lead.

Charlotte had a big chance missed in the 41st minute of the match when Copetti won the ball from a Vancouver defender leading to a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Copetti had his shot saved to keep the score at 1-0.

Vancouver was able to even up the score in the last minute of added time in the first half. Pedro Vite delivered a cross to Ryan Raposo who put the shot on goal that got past Kristijan Kahlina.

The second half did not see as much action as the first half, with Charlotte not having any big chances to score and only managing two shots for the half. Vancouver fared better in the second half, registering five total shots for the half, forcing Kahlina to make a pair of big saves in the 72nd and 74th minutes.

Following the 1-1 draw, Charlotte remains one of 16 MLS teams unbeaten through the first two match weeks.

Charlotte continues their road trip next week with a match against Toronto FC at BMO Field. The match kicks off at 2:00 p.m. EST and streaming on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
