Affidavit: Pair arrested in connection with roller skater’s death beat, robbed a man two days prior
A man and a woman arrested last week in connection with the death of a roller skater on the Northeast Side are also accused of violently robbing a man two days before, according to an arrest affidavit.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said 24-year-old Giovanna Modesty Augusta Barrera was sitting in car taking off her skates on Dec. 9 when Daniel Calvillo, 28, walked up to the woman demanding her phone. When she refused, Salazar said Calvillo shot Barrera in the face.
Calvillo then got in the car driven by Keyana Jones, 20, and fled the scene, Salazar said. The next day, the two were arrested after a traffic stop.

Calvillo and Jones are now facing charges in connection with a Dec. 7 incident. A passerby called Terrell Hills police to the 300 block of Terrell Road after finding a man laying in the road, bleeding profusely from his head and neck.
The victim told police that he was walking down the road when Calvillo and Jones robbed him at gunpoint, the affidavit said. Calvillo allegedly pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the victim and held a knife to his throat as the two robbed him, the affidavit continued. The victim told police the pair took his wallet, phone and keys.
Police were able to identify Calvillo and Jones after they used the victim’s credit card at a Quick Trip gas station, the affidavit said. Surveillance video from the gas station showed the two driving a black Chevrolet HHR — the same vehicle deputies said was used in the Barrera shooting.
Calvillo is now facing charges of capital murder, aggravated robbery and unlawful carrying of a weapon with a bail amount set at $665,000. Jones was arrested on charges of felon in possession of a firearm and aggravated robbery. Her bail was set at $160,000.
Salazar said he expects additional charges will be filed against Jones.
