A Top 49ers Coach Is Leading 2023 HC Discussions

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for a playoff battle with the Seattle Seahawks, their NFC West rival.

The 49ers are the No.2 seed in the NFC after a strong season, despite injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo and starting the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft — Brock Purdy.

On Black Monday, several NFL head coaching jobs are opened and rumors are already starting to fly at a rapid pace.

One 49ers coach is being named as a top option across the league, and it isn’t surprising.

“#49ers DC DeMeco Ryans is one of the top candidates to land an HC job next season. However, it is unlikely to be with the #Texans because he isn’t expected to be interested in Houston. Ryans was originally a 2nd round pick by the team and won DROY honors,” insider Dov Kleiman tweeted.

Defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans has emerged as a popular candidate for the NFL head coach openings.

But, as Dov Kleiman mentions, the Houston Texans aren’t expected to be one despite Ryans’ being drafted and beginning his NFL career with the organization.

The Texans fired David Culley last year after just one season and then moved on from Lovie Smith after one season as well, so the turmoil continues in Houston.

Nonetheless, Ryans is one of the most prominent names in the coaching cycle and he has been terrific running the defense for the 49ers ever since Robert Saleh left to become the head coach for the New York Jets.

The Kyle Shanahan coaching tree is growing, and Ryans could be the next man to get rewarded with a well-deserved promotion.
