‘A day we have been waiting for’: I-10 ramp in Boerne finally reopens

One local construction project just hit a major milestone. The City of Boerne announced on Monday, November 22, the reopening of the on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 10 past Main Street as you head into San Antonio.

“It is finally here, a day we have been waiting for,” Boerne officials wrote in a Facebook post.

Officials also noted you no longer have to sit through the traffic light at Scenic Loop Road if you live in the Menger Springs area or are leaving Methodist Emergency Room or just traveling down South Main Street. The post added the ramp, that begins nears Daisy Lane, almost sneaks up where drivers can potentially miss it.

The on-ramp may be open, but construction is ongoing in that area.

Work continues on the eastbound I-10 exit ramp for Balcones Creek in front of the Toyota dealership, along with the westbound I-10 ramp in front of the Enterprise Car Rental. Those projects should open in the “very near future,” according to Boerne officials.

The projects are part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s improvements to the I-10 interchanges at South Main Street and Highway 46. Once the Main Street component of the project is at an appropriate stage of completion, Buc-ee’s will begin construction on its much-anticipated store in Boerne, according to Chris Shadrock, communications director for Boerne.

The popular convenience store chain hopes to have a store in place near Interstate 10 and U.S. Business 87 by 2023, a spokesperson for Buc-ee’s previously told MySA.

Work on TxDOT’s I-10 Kendall Extension project is scheduled to last into 2022.
