Warriors’ Steve Kerr shares eye-opening reaction to Yaxel Lendeborg’s 37-point night

Steve Kerr was impressed by Yaxel Lendeborg’s career-best performance against the Los Angeles Clippers, but the Golden State Warriors coach believes the rookie has plenty of room to improve.

Kerr pointed out that Lendeborg is still learning the NBA game while already making a significant impact.

Lendeborg scored 37 points to lead Golden State to a 124-112 victory on Sunday. He shot 13-of-19 from the field, connected on six 3-pointers, and added six assists as the Warriors extended their winning streak to four games.

Speaking after the game, the head coach explained how remarkable the rookie’s production has been given his limited experience at the professional level.

“He’s playing this way, and he really like doesn’t know the NBA game yet, you know. But the game is still really fast for him, but he’s so skilled and so talented that he’s making all kinds of plays out there,” Kerr said.

The coach expects Lendeborg to become more effective as he learns to recognize defensive patterns, handle double teams, and understand pick-and-roll situations. Kerr also noted that the forward has significant defensive development ahead of him.

Kerr also credited Lendeborg for helping Golden State maintain its offensive production without Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who rested on the front end of a back-to-back.

“It changes everything,” Kerr said. “You see on a night like tonight without Steph, you know, we score 124 points and Yax is the main reason that we’re with, you know, high power.”

Lendeborg received support from De’Anthony Melton, who scored 21 points, while Brandin Podziemski and Brandon Williams added 17 apiece. Rui Hachimura led the Clippers with 24 points as Los Angeles suffered its fifth consecutive defeat.
