The Chicago Bulls continue to struggle to find their footing early in the 2026-27 NBA season. Despite entering their NBA Cup match hoping to turn things around and build some momentum, the Bulls suffered another disappointing loss against the Boston Celtics on Friday night. However, rookie Caleb Wilson isn’t prepared to accept the team’s difficult start or become comfortable with losing.
Following Friday’s defeat, Wilson made it clear that he has no intention of developing a losing mentality.
“I’ve never been a loser,” Williams said. “I’m not ever going to be accepting of losing. It’s my job to be a leader on this team.
“It’s probably mostly my fault we started the way we did, whether I’m a young player or not. I’ll take ownership of that, and it won’t happen again.”
Chicago entered the season with hopes of establishing a new identity under head coach Tiago Splitter. However, the team’s inconsistent performances have made that process difficult. Following Friday’s loss, Chicago has now fallen to 1-5 to begin the season.
Despite the early growing pains, Wilson has already demonstrated why the Bulls selected him with the fourth overall pick. The rookie led Chicago with 23 points, five rebounds, and four assists in 31 minutes against Boston. He also displayed his shooting ability by knocking down six of his 11 three-point attempts while contributing two blocks and one steal.
The Bulls are still in the early stages of their rebuilding process, and Wilson is expected to play an important role in their future. His first few weeks in the NBA have brought some difficult lessons, yet his performances so far have offered encouraging signs.
More importantly, the rookie’s refusal to accept the team’s losing start shows the competitive mindset Chicago will hope to build around.
