The Boston Bruins are having a nice start to the 2026-27 season. Boston made some big offseason moves to maintain their status as a playoff team. On Friday night, they showed that they can stand tall against quality teams. Goalie Michael DiPietro was among the standouts in this contest.
The Boston netminder stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced in this game. He received a huge offensive contribution at the other end of the ice, as well. In the end, the Bruins won 4-2, moving to 6-2-0 on the season.
DiPietro’s win was notable as well. The 27-year-old won his first career NHL game. Furthermore, he became the second Bruins goalie in the last 48 years to win his first game at age 27 or older, according to NHL Public Relations. The other netminder to achieve that feat was Tim Thomas.

DiPietro has had limited experience in the NHL prior to this season. In fact, this is the first time the 27-year-old has appeared in more than a single game in any one season. This was just the fourth career start for the former third-round pick.
The Bruins netminder was initially drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in 2017. He appeared in three games for them from 2018-19 to 2021-22. It wasn’t until the 2025-26 campaign that he saw NHL action again.
DiPietro is now fully established as the Bruins backup goaltender. He will be the one stepping up when starting netminder Jeremy Swayman is getting a night off. So far, he has shown the ability to stand tall when his team needs him. It will be interesting to see how he builds on his performance in his next appearance.
