A teenager was hospitalized in critical condition early Thursday after he was found shot in the chest on the West Side, according to San Antonio police.
Officers responded to a call for a prowler around 12:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of Melissa Sue, which is located near Culebra Road and Callaghan Road.
The teen was with several others who left him down the street since he was allegedly burglarizing vehicles, SAPD said.
When officers arrived on the scene, police said they saw the group that the teenager was originally with.
The group told officers about the teen, saying that they did not want anything to do with burglarizing vehicles, SAPD stated.
Shortly later, an officer heard a gunshot and walked a block away to find the teenager on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.
According to police, the teen was wearing a ski mask, and a 30-round Glock magazine was found next to him.
Authorities are still working to determine who shot the teenager and whether any others were involved.
The city does not have a curfew for teens because state law bars cities from implementing them.
