Real Madrid secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Oviedo at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, with Gonzalo García and Jude Bellingham scoring to extend their title challenge.

Real Madrid dominated La Liga’s struggling Oviedo on May 14, maintaining their push for the championship. The hosts controlled possession from the start, dictating play against a visiting side fighting to avoid relegation. Madrid held second place with 77 points from 35 matches, while Oviedo remained in 20th with just 29 points.

García opened the scoring in the 44th minute, breaking the deadlock just before halftime. The midfielder’s well-taken finish rewarded Madrid’s patient build-up play and constant pressure. Oviedo offered little threat in the opening period, managing just one shot on target as they retreated into a defensive shell.

Madrid’s attacking intent was clear throughout the first half. They created numerous chances, with 10 shots inside the box. Brahim Díaz proved a constant menace on the wing, troubling Oviedo’s defense repeatedly. The visitors could only absorb punishment, committing 14 fouls as they struggled to match their opponents’ intensity.

Possession statistics told the story of the first 45 minutes. Madrid enjoyed 65 percent ball control, passing with 93 percent accuracy. Their 614 total passes dwarfed Oviedo’s 321, highlighting the gulf in class between the teams.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Madrid continued pressing forward while Oviedo remained compact and defensive. Bellingham entered the game and made an immediate impact, finding the back of the net in the 80th minute to seal victory.

Bellingham’s goal effectively ended the contest. The midfielder’s clinical finish demonstrated Madrid’s superior quality in the final third. Oviedo’s goalkeeper made five saves but could not prevent the second strike from finding the net.

Eduardo Camavinga anchored Madrid’s midfield with solid defensive work, completing 90 minutes and making three tackles. Thibaut Courtois remained relatively untested in goal, making one save in a largely one-sided affair. García earned a team-high 8.3 rating for his influential display before his substitution.

The statistics reinforced Madrid’s dominance. They recorded 18 total shots with seven on target, compared to Oviedo’s nine shots and just one on target. Madrid’s expected goals (xG) of 1.38 exceeded Oviedo’s 0.69, reflecting the quality of chances created.

Oviedo’s defensive struggles continued, now sitting 20th with relegation looming. Madrid’s victory keeps them in contention at second place, though they remain dependent on results elsewhere. The comfortable win showcased their attacking prowess and defensive stability.

Madrid face a busy fixture schedule ahead as the season enters its final stages. Oviedo must find solutions quickly if they hope to escape the drop zone.
