A 31-year-old man was killed in a suspected drive-by shooting on the East Side, according to San Antonio police.
Officers responded to a call for shots fired just after 1:15 a.m. Wednesday in the 1500 block of Center Street, near North Mittman Street.
Upon arrival, a preliminary report said officers found the man with gunshot wounds throughout his body.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Witnesses told the officers that they saw a black sedan flee the scene after hearing the gunshots.
According to an SAPD homicide detective on scene, there were multiple shooters involved who fired at least 80 rounds in all.
Neighbors told KSAT that they heard the gunfire.
“I walked into the house and as soon as I got to my gate right there, I just heard someone run up and pa-pa-pa, but I really didn’t see anything,” Hector Rosas said.
Two houses, as well as a vehicle that was towed from the scene, were struck by the gunfire, the detective said.
“I’ve heard crime happening in the neighborhood, but it’s never been right out in my yard,” another neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said. “I literally have a picture. There’s a cop right here picking up shell casing like right here in this spot so that’s really scary.”
The detective also told KSAT that the shooting appears to be a targeted attack. There is no current danger to the public.
