49ers WR Deebo Samuel practices for second consecutive day

The San Francisco 49ers must have been pleased with how Deebo Samuel emerged from Thursday’s practice. The wide receiver was back at it during Friday’s session, his second consecutive practice since returning from the MCL and ankle sprains he sustained during Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 49ers will release their game status report this afternoon. It will be interesting to see how they list Samuel, who has been ruled out of the two games since the injury.

San Francisco has just two games remaining on its schedule. They will face the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on New Year’s Day before closing out the regular season against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium.

While the 49ers remain in the hunt for the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoff picture, having a healthy Samuel on offense might be a vital piece of the team’s championship hopes. There is no real sense of urgency to get the receiver back on the football field before the postseason.

The 49ers made Samuel a second-round pick out of South Carolina in 2019. The wideout has recorded 54 catches for 612 yards and two receiving touchdowns this season while adding 41 carries for 228 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.
