49ers vs Chargers: Players to Watch in Win Streak Hope

This weekend the San Francisco 49ers are set to face off against the LA Chargers in Sunday Night Football. In this 49ers vs Chargers matchup up, there is a lot to watch for. Both these teams have lost more games than may have been expected going into the season. Here are three San Francisco players to watch in the 49ers vs Chiefs matchup.

After missing their last game against the Los Angeles Rams, Deebo Samuel will be a player to watch during the 49ers vs Chargers matchup. When San Francisco faced the Rams, running back Christian McCaffrey rushed, caught, and passed three touchdowns. As well as tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk caught touchdowns. With the return of Samuel, this offense can be fun to watch.

Samuel has had a total of 387 yards from 32 receptions this season, and two receiving touchdowns according to Pro Football Reference. As many know, Samuel is also known as a wide back, because of his ability to rush the ball as well. From 24 rushing attempts, Samuel has a total of 138 yards and one touchdown. These are statistics from only seven games this season.

The Chargers have allowed opponents to rush for a total of 1,164 yards, according to ESPN. This will put San Francisco at a strong advantage this weekend between multiple players who can make big plays from the run game.

Although Samuel is known as a wide back, it will be interesting to watch how often he rushes, with the addition of McCaffrey to the team. Although it is not confirmed yet, there is a chance running back Elijah Mitchell will return from the injured reserve list and play in this game. Aside from those two, there are also two running back rookies on the roster that can be used. It will be interesting to watch how head coach, Kyle Shanahan utilizes Deebo Samuel in the 49ers vs Chargers matchup.

Linebacker and captain, Fred Warner has been playing great football this season. Warner has had a total of 62 combined tackles, 38 of which were solo, according to Pro Football Reference. Warner also has had one sack this season. So far, Warner has not caught an interception but has been close a number of times. With being able to tackle from all over the field, Warner is a player to watch in the 49ers vs Chargers matchup.

Warner has been a player that can run all over the field. He follows the ball wherever it goes, with all of his energy. Against the Rams in week eight, Warner made a great tackle on running back Raymond Calais. Warner was nowhere near Calais, and somehow jumped to tackle the running back. Warner is a big reason why opposing teams have had a difficult time gaining momentum by rushing the ball. The 49ers have let opponents rush for 693 rushing yards in eight games, according to ESPN. The Chargers’ offense has only been able to rush for 713 yards in eight games. Warner will have the advantage this weekend playing against a weak Los Angeles run game.

With injuries taking over San Francisco’s secondary, cornerback Charvarius Ward will need to step up this weekend in the 49ers vs Chargers matchup. Ward has been battling lingering injuries that have forced him to come out of a few games but overall Ward has been pretty solid.

This season, Ward has forced one fumble and caught for an interception. Turnovers have been a key part of the 49ers gaining momentum on both sides of the ball. Aside from turnovers, Ward has had a total of eight pass deflections and 44 combined tackles, 30 of which were solo, according to Pro Football Reference.

The Chargers have a very solid quarterback with Justin Herbert. If Los Angeles is not able to get anything going with the run game, they will look to rely on Herberts’ arm strength. According to ESPN, Herbert has completed 233 passes out of 351 attempts for 2,254 yards. If Ward can also be a factor in preventing the passing game, it will be difficult for the Los Angeles offense to get anything going against San Francisco’s defense. Be sure to watch Ward in the 49ers vs Chargers matchup.
