49ers to host winner of Cowboys-Buccaneers game in Divisional Round of playoffs

The San Francisco 49ers’ wait to learn which NFL team they will face next continues. However, one possibility was eliminated on Sunday when the New York Giants beat the Minnesota Vikings 31-24 in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. That means the top-seeded Philadelphia Eagles will host the Giants, the lowest-seeded victor to emerge from the first round of playoff action.
The No. 2 seeded 49ers will host the winner of Monday night’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The NFL will reveal the date and time for the 49ers’ next matchup soon.

San Francisco is coming off a dominant 41-23 playoff win over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night.

The 49ers won their last meeting with the Cowboys, a 23-17 victory in the Wild Card Round of last season’s playoffs. The rematch is a welcome one for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

I hope we get a chance to put this team up against them when it really counts, in the playoffs,” Jones said in October. “… [W]e’ve got to get by them to get where we want to go.”

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was recently asked if last season’s playoff loss remains on players’ minds and if they use it as motivation.

Damn right. Damn right,” Prescott responded.

San Francisco has won the last two meetings with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with the latest being a 35-7 rout in Week 14.
