49ers Safety Jimmie Ward Could Go On IR To Start Season

After their final preseason game on Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers are now readying themselves for their first regular season contest, which will take place on September 11 versus the Chicago Bears.

But they have been dealing with some injuries to key players, particularly players on the defensive side of the football.

One of those key players is safety Jimmie Ward, who is a pretty important part of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s defensive scheme.

He has been out for nearly two weeks with a hamstring injury that Shanahan admitted was “pretty bad,” and it hasn’t improved much, if at all.

On Thursday, general manager John Lynch said that Ward will probably be placed on the injured reserve list and that he could miss the first four games of the regular season.
