49ers reach extension with key offensive lineman

The San Francisco 49ers have been working on extending their players before the 2023 free agency begins and the first player up is offensive lineman Colton McKivitz. The 49ers reached a two-year extension with the veteran who they hope can remain a key cog in the trenches.

Colton McKivitz Extended

McKivitz was drafted in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL draft. This extension will keep the 49ers offensive lineman under contract through the 2024 season.

The McKivitz news was reported by the 49ers on Twitter, but the full details of the extension have not been announced yet.

McKivitz was set to be a restricted free agent but was able to get an extension before having to go through the tender process. As things stand, McKivitz could compete to become the starting right tackle for the 49ers. Last years starter Mike McGlinchey, will most likely be leaving the team in free agency and this move gives the 49ers some insurance if he were to exit.

Free agency begins next week, and expect more flux with the 49ers offensive line.
