49ers don’t tender LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, making him a free agent

The San Francisco 49ers have opted not to tender a contract to restricted free agent linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, immediately making him an unrestricted free agent and free to sign anywhere. He may also return to San Francisco on a new contract.

Should Flannigan-Fowles sign with another team, he will become the second linebacker the 49ers have lost in free agency. The Tennessee Titans are signing former 49ers linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, an unrestricted free agent.

San Francisco signed Flannigan-Fowles (6-2, 223) as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona in 2019. He registered 22 tackles, a tackle for a loss, a sack, and a quarterback hit through 17 game appearances with the 49ers last season, per Pro Football Reference.

Flannigan-Fowles, 26, has recorded 60 tackles and a sack in 45 game appearances (three starts) through his four NFL seasons but spent his rookie 2019 season on the 49ers’ practice squad.
