49ers Defender Shares Definitive Trey Lance Prediction

There’s no turning back for the San Francisco 49ers as they name Trey Lance their starting quarterback in 2022.

It was easy to see this day coming because they traded up to select the former North Dakota State standout.

Even if Jimmy Garoppolo is still on the 49ers’ roster, the team believes that Lance is ready for a bigger role.

His rookie season was a teaser for when he becomes the main attraction.

This time, he will lead a team that made it to the NFC Championship Game last year.

While there are skeptics regarding his ability, Lance got a huge sign of approval from one of his teammates.

Cornerback Charvarius Ward said, “He’s [Lance] the face of the franchise. He’s gonna show the world this season.”

That statement sounds like both an endorsement and a challenge for Lance to help keep the team’s winning ways.

Lance played six games in 2021, finishing with 603 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions.

He had his first start against the Arizona Cardinals, wherein he had 192 yards and a pick.

He bounced back in their game versus the Houston Texans, leading the team to a 23-7 victory with 249 yards and two touchdowns.

A Different Mentality For Lance

Now that he is the undisputed starter, Lance must instill in his mind that he’s the only one who can do the job for San Francisco.

Therefore, he must be confident in his ability to make the right plays, especially during crunch time.

Likewise, he is not alone in the battle because he has Elijah Mitchell in the backfield.

There’s also All-Pro Deebo Samuel with fellow wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings.

George Kittle also remains one of the league’s top tight ends.

Having this collection of talent around him should make the transition from backup to starter easier for Lance.

Once he starts in Week 1, having a killer mindset means that there’s no turning back.
