3 transported to San Antonio hospital after plane crash at Canyon Lake airport

Three people were transported to a San Antonio hospital after their plane crashed into a tree in the Canyon Lake-area on Saturday, May 28. Around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, a child, a man, and a woman were hospitalized after their plane crashed near Canyon Lake’s Hancock Airport. according to a report by the New Braunfels Herald-Zeiting.

“It is unknown if the accident occurred during a landing or when taking off,” said Canyon Lake Fire and EMS Chief Robert Mikel to the newspaper. “Two adults and one pediatric patient were transported to University Hospital in San Antonio with non-life threatening injuries. The three were the only reported occupants of the plane.”

Comal County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jennifer Smith said to the Herald-Zeiting that the plane crashed into a property adjacent to the Canyon Lake Airport. Smith said deputies received a call at 6:23 p.m. and left the scene at 9:04 p.m. after the three people were treated and transported to University Hospital by ground emergency medical services.

Federal Aviation Administration (FFA) area public affairs specialist Donnell Evans said to the Herald-Zeiting, a single-engine Cessna 172 crashed into a tree at the end of the runway at Canyon Lake Airport and the FAA will investigate the crash. More information will be released after investigators verify the aircraft registration number, Evans said to the newspaper. He added that the FFA does not identify people involved in aircraft accidents.
