With the NFL season reaching the midway point, there are 3 Reasons The Raiders Can’t Resign Josh Jacobs. The Las Vegas Raiders season is in jeopardy, with many questions. One of those questions includes Josh Jacobs and a potential new contract. Las Vegas in the offseason declined Jacobs’s fifth-year option in hopes of shedding his deal. A reason the Raiders shouldn’t keep Jacobs is regression for running backs in a certain age after their prime. Another reason extending Jacobs won’t work is the team declined his option, so it won’t make sense to keep him at all. The First Reason is Health Concerns For Jacobs

A reason why the Raiders should not resign Josh Jacobs is that running backs do not have long careers. The length of running backs’ careers in the NFL is not long due to injuries in their career. Throughout the careers of running backs, their careers always end around age 30 due to the wear and tear. The injuries from running backs due to torn ACLs and hamstrings can discourage GMs to keep them. Another part of running backs being hurt is that the longevity cannot last due to that history. Along with health concerns are running backs’ weak performances after reaching their prime. Besides a few older runners, Jacobs should not receive a new contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. 

The Second Is The Raiders Are Moving On From Him

A second reason why the Raiders should not give Josh Jacobs a second deal is that they already moving on. The organization declined his 5th-year option, so it will appear to be silly to resign him.  Along; with declining, Jacobs’s deal, the Raiders, declined the rest of the first-round picks from the 2019 draft. The drafting from Gruden and Mayock was a disaster, especially in the 2020 draft. With the 2019 picks, along with Josh Jacobs trying to prove themselves, the Raiders are moving on. The organization, while flawed will not make the mistake of keeping players from the last regime except for some. Las Vegas moving on from picks from the last regime is a great plan moving forward. 

The 3rd Reason is There Are Better Spots For Josh Jacobs

A final reason the Raiders should move on from Josh Jacobs is that another team might need him for their game plan. Another team with a strong line could be able to sign Josh Jacobs to a nice deal. With Jacobs having a good season so far this season, any team could sign him for a better-fit team. Along with that, the situation could be a win-win situation if things go well for both the player and the team. With the season at the midway point, Josh Jacobs could continue this performance and could get a huge payday. Other teams in the NFL could have more uses for Josh Jacobs in their offensive game planning better than now. 

The planning for the Raider offense right now is a complete disaster with terrible coaching. Having a new coach and environment could improve Jacobs’s performance in his career and could make him a star. Other offensive minds in teams that could use a good running back could help Jacobs’s career in the end. In the end, Josh Jacobs’s time in Vegas is at an end, and could be a bright future for him.

The Future Of The Raiders and Josh Jacobs

Josh Jacobs while a good player would be a risky gamble for the Raiders and should not extend him. With the age of older running backs dealing with injury issues, the Raiders would be foolish to keep Josh Jacobs. Along with injury issues is that the Raiders know his time in Vegas is at an end. Even at the end of Jacobs’s tenure in Vegas, he will find a new and potentially better environment. Moving on from mistakes is a hard decision, but it’s needed to move forward. Las Vegas made some risky gambles in the past and should learn from them.
