2023 NFL International Series: Home Teams Announced

The NFL has been trying to grow the game internationally for years. A pillar of this effort is the NFL International Series. This year we saw the most amount of games overseas with the most amount of locations as well. Games were not only played in London, but in Germany and Mexico City. The 2023 NFL International Series home teams were revealed today.

2023 NFL International Series

The NFL will continue playing three games in London in 2023. The Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, and Buffalo Bills will all play in London next season. The Jaguars will be at Wembley Stadium while the other two will play at Tottenham Hotspur. The NFL is back in Germany this time with two games. The Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots will head to Germany. The locations of these games were not announced.

International Expansion?

The question on everyone’s mind is will the NFL ever expand internationally? Commissioner Roger Goodell spoke about this during the 2022 International Series and seemed on board with the idea. He even floated the idea of having two divisions of four teams each in the European market. There are many hurdles to expansion but there is a way to make it work. The NFL is clearly not backing down from international games and even adding more year by year. Germany now seems to be a staple and it will be interesting to see if any other countries begin to become host sites.

What is interesting about the teams chosen is they all should be playoff contenders next season. Too often, the London games become snooze-fests because of the quality of the teams. However, of the five announced, four are in the playoffs and the Patriots narrowly missed the playoffs. The NFL is wanting to grow its international fan base and the 2023 NFL International Series should help.
