2022 Fantasy Football Outlook: Dalton Schultz

Dalton Schultz and the Dallas Cowboys have yet to hash out a long-term deal that extends past the 2022-23 season. However, Schultz will certainly enter his fifth year in Dallas with high expectations.  Here’s why the Cowboys’ tight end should be on every fantasy owner’s radar ahead of this upcoming season.

In 2021, Schultz posted a career-best in nearly every receiving statistic, hauling in 78 catches for over 800 yards and 8 TDs.   Managing to stay healthy for all of Dallas’s 18 games, Schultz averaged a respectable 12.3 fantasy points per week. The performance pushed him past the likes of George Kittle and Kyle Pitts to finish third on end-of-season rankings for the TE position.

2022 Expectations

Given recent changes to the Cowboy’s offense, there’s strong reason to believe that Schultz will improve upon his numbers in 2022. Last year, the big man competed for targets with Dallas’s talented receiving corps, headlined by wideouts CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper. Schultz also shared the field with fellow tight end, Blake Jarwin. However, earlier this offseason, the Cowboys shipped Cooper to Cleveland and waived Jarwin with an injury designation.  With them out of the picture, we can surely expect Schultz to take on a heavier load in terms of targets.

Coming off a stellar 2021 performance, It’s no surprise that Schultz has developed a strong relationship with his quarterback. Before the Cowboy’s OTA practices back in June, QB Dak Prescott praised Schultz, saying, “He’s a guy that I feel very comfortable with, have a lot of trust with.” Look for Prescott and Schultz to build upon their chemistry in 2022 and for the Cowboys TE to, once again, be a top-eight option in his respected position.
