2022 Charles Schwab Challenge odds, field notes, best bets and PGA Tour picks
The week after a major always feels like a hangover.
Four straight days of 12 hours on the couch, eating like crap, and maybe indulging in a few adult beverages will do it every time.
Now, it’s time for a quick turnaround as the PGA Tour heads back down to Texas for what feels like the 10th time.
The Charles Schwab Challenge, despite its spot on the schedule, has conjured up quite the field here in 2022. PGA champion Justin Thomas isn’t taking any time to celebrate his second career major win and is set to tee off Thursday at Colonial Country Club.
Joining him are World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland and Will Zalatoris.

Strokes Gained: Around the Green: Colonial has the seventh smallest greens on Tour, so players who get up and down when they inevitably miss the green will have a significant advantage this week.

Abraham Ancer

Ancer, after a tough stretch to start 2022, finally put together a few good days of golf at Southern Hills and finished T-9. He’s returning to an event where he’s finished inside the top 15 in back-to-back seasons (T-14 in ’21, ’20).

Talor Gooch

After missing the cut at the AT&T Byron Nelson, Gooch cashed a top 20 last week at the PGA. Last season, he tied for 14th at Colonial and has played the weekend here for three straight seasons.

Brian Harman

Harman has finished T-35 or better in three-straight starts, including a T-9 at the Wells Fargo. In his last five starts at Colonial, he’s finished inside the top 25 four times (T-31 in 2019), two of which are top 10s (T-8 last season).

Max Homa

Homa has quickly become a bona fide winner on the PGA Tour. After winning the Wells Fargo Championship a few weeks ago, the 31-year-old tied for 13th at the PGA. He didn’t play here last year, missed the cut in 2020, but tied for 27th in 2019.
