An 18-year-old woman was killed after a vehicle hit her while she was standing on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 281, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
The woman stopped on the shoulder of the highway early Saturday morning and partially in the lane of traffic, police said, after experiencing mechanical issues with her vehicle.
A bystander helped the teenager push the vehicle off the main lanes, police said, but she was hit while stepping out of the vehicle around 2:45 a.m.
The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver remained at the scene and was not found to be intoxicated, police said. No criminal charges are expected to be filed.
