15-year vet for the BCSO facing termination after DWI arrest on Saturday

A 15-year veteran for the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is facing possible termination by the department after being arrested while off-duty for driving while intoxicated, officials reported on Saturday, March 26. 

Sgt. Juan Medrano, 37, was arrested around 12:13 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Babcock Road and Loop 410 on the city’s Northwest Side. According to a release from the sheriff’s office, Medrano is charged with a driving while intoxicated offense, which is a Class B Misdemeanor.

The sheriff’s office has yet to release additional information on the matter to the public yet. But the office said in their release that Medrano was served a notice of proposed dismissal following his arrest early Saturday morning. The firing offense comes as part of the policies and procedures with Bexar County Civil Service Rules.

Medrano served underneath the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office for 15 years and was assigned to the Detention Bureau. Previous reports by KSAT 12 stated that Medrano was being held in the Bexar County Jail where his bond was set at $1,200.

This is an ongoing incident and will be updated as more information becomes available. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office was contacted for comment on Medrano’s possible termination.
