15 national, global chains that opened up shop in San Antonio within the last year
More than a dozen outposts of regional and national chains added San Antonio to their list of locations within the last year.
The Alamo City is no longer left out of the discussion on cult classics, like Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken or Jolibee. The city is also the first American extension for Vietnamese and South American companies like Lustea and Cervecería Chapultepec. Shoppers will also soon be able to try on Fabletics active wear and Warby Parker glasses, rather than browsing online, once the brands open brick-and-mortar stores at The Shops at La Cantera.

The luxurious brand of modernized Ukranian dresses hosted a pop-up store during Fiesta as a prelude to the first San Antonio shop slated to open in Alamo Heights next month. March11 founder Roberta Mishchenko moved the headquarters of the brand from New York City to the Alamo City last year.
The marijuana-inspired Colorado-based franchise that specializes in “toasted” munchies opened June 29 at 11911 Alamo Ranch Parkway
The national brand is made up of more than 20 restaurants throughout the U.S. The network stretches from Washington D.C. to Calabasas, Calif., but North Italia prides itself on serving dishes made from scratch. San Antonio’s first North Italia opened at The Rim, at 5822 Worth Parkway, on June 9.
The fried chicken joint was possibly San Antonio’s most highly anticipated openings in recent months. The Memphis-based chain has restaurants across the country. It’s map now includes a 812 South Alamo Street spot that opened on June 21. The straightforward menu allows guests to pick their fried chicken plates, with dark and white meat options, and classic sides.
The Austin-based burger chain picked San Antonio as the first major market to expand to. P. Terry’s will have three San Antonio restaurants soon, starting with a Medical Center location opening the first week of July. San Antonio’s first P. Terrys location is at 8443 Wurzbach Road.
Fabletics
Kate Hudson’s active wear brand is eyeing a spot at The Shops at La Cantera to unveil the city’s first brick-and-mortar location in October, the San Antonio Business Journal reports.
Big Apple-based Warby Parker, known for their at-home try-on eye glass kit, is planning to open at The Shops at La Cantera later this year.
Nike selected San Antonio as one of nine international destinations to debut the brand’s new “Unite” concept. The store at the Alamo Quarry Market opened last fall.
Dog Haus, a California gourmet hot dog franchise, opened the first local restaurant at 22503 U.S. 281 North at Stone Oak Parkway. The chain plans to open two other locations in San Antonio within the next six months. The new spots are located at 11719 Quincy Lee Drive near Loop 1604 and Bandera Road and at 9330 Potranco Road near the Burger Boy on Highway 151. The restaurant opened in March following a soft opening phase.
The Austin-based arcade-bar-grill concept is expected to open in San Antonio this summer. The 6,000-square-foot bar will be located at the northeast corner of Interstate 10 and North Loop 1604
Velvet Taco, which has locations in Dallas, Austin, Chicago, Charlotte and Atlanta, opened two San Antonio restaurants near The Rim and The Pearl in February and March, respectively. Velvet Taco is known for its globally inspired menu of tacos.
The anticipation ahead of the opening of the Filipino fast food chain may rival that of Gus’s. The 5033 Northwest Loop 410 location had lines snaking throughout the parking lot for days after it opened in December.
The popular college town restaurant is opening a San Antonio location soon at 5618 UTSA Boulevard.
The Vietnamese tea shop franchise chose San Antonio as its first American outpost. The company set up shop inside the Park North shopping center in October.
The restaurant and bar where everything is $3 has locations throughout South America. San Antonio was also selected as its first extension into the U.S. The restaurant opened at 906 East Elmira Street in August.
