Chelsea win the Champions League

Chelsea overcame the odds and beat favourites Manchester city to win the Champions League final last night.

Thomas Tuchel helped the West London club lift their second title of its kind, putting them into a small group of clubs in England to have achieved such a feet.

The night may have only been witnessed by a fraction of the supporters typically seen at finals however it made the magic no less special.

Below are some of the defining moments of the post-match celebrations.

Tuchel meets Roman Abramovich for the first time

Tuchel was appointed as Chelsea’s head coach after Frank Lampard was sacked, raising a lot of questions at the time. His win in Portugal last night was the first time in which he met the man who employed him, Roman Abramovich.

It is highly likely now that the Russian owner will reward the German coach with a brand new contract.

Thiago Silva & Tuchel one year on 

One year on from the disappointment of PSG losing to Bayern Munich in the same fixture, both Thomas Tuchel and Thiago Silva, who were on the losing side in Lisbon, embrace in a moving mirror image of opposite emotions.

Aguero left in tears 

On the other side was of course the disappointment for Manchester City and in particular Sergio Aguero who played his final game for the Citizens.

He was seen hanging around when all of his other teammates had retired to the dressing room in clear devastation, with tears rolling down his face.

Kai Havertz wins Chelsea the ultimate trophy 

After being signed as the club’s record purchase, Kai Havertz justified every penny of his fee by scoring the only and winning goal of the final.

In an interview after the match his emotions overcame him and he ended up swearing on camera which he amusingly repeated on social media just moments later.

Pep Guardiola caught in self reflection

Pep Guardiola will receive incredible criticism for his team selections which saw neither of Fernandinho or Rodri start the match. A noticeable improvement was shown when the Brazilian came on in the second half to add insult to injury.

The Spaniard however defended his choice, taking time to praise Ilkay Gundogan for his input.

Mason Mount: how it started, how it’s going

Since his loan spell at Derby came to an end and he returns to Chelsea things have only gone up and up for Mason Mount. A Chelsea supporter since childhood having come through the academy he achieved a dream, lifting the Champions League trophy as one of his side’s most influential figures.

Kante embraces family after humble win 

Easily the best player on the pitch was and N’Golo Kante and he was seen embracing his family members after yet another major trophy.

He has now added the Champions League to a World Cup title and multiple Premier League wins with both Chelsea and Leicester City.

Kante carried after carrying team to victory 

The way in which he carried his side during the match is worthy of two mentions on this list and in particular the symbolic images of his side returning the favour by lifting him throughout the celebrations.

Azpilicueta lifts the trophy as captain

Cesar Azpilicueta joined Chelsea the summer after they lifted the UEFA Champions League for the first time.

He has enjoyed a stellar career at the club in addition to becoming the captain. He lifted the trophy last night to bring the cycle full circle.

 Olivier Giroud ends Chelsea career as UCL winner

Having left Arsenal as a player deemed surplus to requirements in North London, Giroud has now managed to win two major European trophies with the Blues.

The Frenchman’s contract with Chelsea ends this summer and he certainly capped his time with the Blues off with a hell of a victory.
