H-E-B offering flu shots at massive drive-thru event at Freeman Coliseum later this month

H-E-B is hosting a large drive-thru flu shot event at the Freeman Coliseum from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, the grocery store chain announced in a news release Wednesday.

Dozens of H-E-B pharmacists will be set up in the parking lot of Freeman Coliseum, located 3201 E Houston St., to administer the flu shots, the release said. Most major insurance will be accepted, and flu shots will be available at no cost for those without insurance, according to the release.

People wanting to receive a flu shot must register and schedule an appointment at heb.com/pharmacy. Those who register can drive up and receive their vaccination without leaving their vehicle, the release noted.

Individual registrations must be submitted for each person, including children age 3 and older, to receive a flu shot at the event.

Protocols will be in place to ensure mask use and proper social distancing practices are followed for participants and volunteers at the event, according to the release.

The San Antonio-based company teamed up with Bexar County, University Health System and Freeman Coliseum for the one-day event.

With flu season quickly approaching, routine vaccinations such as flu shots are essential, according to the Center for Disease and Control Prevention. During the COVID-19 pandemic flu shots will be vital to help reduce the impact of respiratory illnesses, the CDC states.

Apart from the event, all H-E-B Pharmacy locations offer flu shots and other immunizations.
