Victor Wembanyama has second-highest odds of winning All-Star MVP
SB Nation Reacts to NBA All-Star Weekend.
The San Antonio Spurs will have the biggest presence they’ve had at NBA All-Star Weekend in years. Victor Wembanyama is an All-Star and will participate in the NBA Skills Challenge with Chris Paul for Team Spurs. Stephon Castle will play in the Rising Stars game on Friday night and will attempt to bring home a dunk contest crown on Saturday.
It’s another step in getting the Spurs back into the NBA limelight. A successful weekend from Wembanyama and Castle could put the basketball world on notice. The message – we got next.

According to SB Nation’s latest national survey, NBA fans are expecting big things from Wemby in the All-Star game. About 12% of voters expect him to win the ASG MVP. Wemby has told the media that he plans to be competitive. If he’s the only player bringing the juice, he’s got a legitimate chance. The NBA is practically begging players to compete this year, maybe Wembanyama won’t be alone in trying hard.
FanDuel puts Wembanyama at +800 to win ASG MVP, tied with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as the second-highest odds. Stephen Curry is the current favorite with +550 odds. Curry’s ability to light it up from deep makes him a favorite to win MVP every year.

Stephon Castle is not the favorite to win the dunk contest, but you shouldn’t count him out. Castle has the vertical leaping ability and strength to throw down strong dunks. While the current dunk contest champ, Mac McClung, has the flair, Castle’s emphatic slams could put him on top. My ultimate wish is Castle jumping over Wembanyama for his final dunk.
