Pounding the Rock readers voted on who they would like to see the Spurs acquire summer.

Our days with NBA hoops are numbered with just a week until the Finals. Soon the basketball world will turn to the rumor mill to get their NBA fix. The San Antonio Spurs find themselves in the thick of the offseason discussion this summer. With a superstar in Victor Wembanyama, cap space and plenty of draft capital, the Spurs are in prime position to make some moves. We turned to Pounding the Rock readers to learn who they would like to see the Spurs add in the offseason.

The first decision will come in late June at the NBA Draft. There have been plenty of prospects connected to San Antonio, none more than Stephon Castle. The UCONN guard/wing hybrid is a lock down defender with excellent intangibles. A large majority of PtR readers want to see Castle in the Silver and Black. Reed Sheppard, the sweet shooting guard from Kentucky also seems like a good fit for San Antonio. Selecting both Sheppard would give the Spurs someone who shot over 50% from three at Kentucky, and Castle provides some needed defensive versatility, making for a great draft haul.

If the Spurs don’t select a point guard in the draft, they could elect to pursue one in trade or free agency. The Spurs have been linked to big time targets like Trae Young and Darius Garland, but those players would require a significant trade package. San Antonio could elect to trade for or sign a “stop-gap” guard.

There are plenty of options for the Spurs if they want to add a bridge at the position. Malcolm Brogdon and Tyus Jones top our readers preference at guard. Brogdon would require a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, but would likely be cheaper than other flashier names. Brogdon is a solid defender and a good shooter (shot 41.2% from deep), but has struggled with injuries in the past. Jones, the older brother of Spurs guard, Tre Jones, has the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the league (7:1) and is a threat from deep (41.4% from three). He will be a free agent this summer.

The Spurs desperately need shooting around Wembanyama. They were 28th in the NBA in three-point percentage last season. Opposing teams could pack the paint on Wembanyama and ignore the Spurs deep shooters. The majority of the poll’s respondents would like to see Gary Trent Jr. don the Silver and Black next. Trent Jr. is an unrestricted free agent, and will be a priority target for teams looking to add shooting. He shot 39% from deep last season in 71 games. With the Spurs estimated $19 million in cap space, they should have room to land the sharpshooter.

These are just a few paths forward for Brian Wright, Gregg Popovich and the rest of the Spurs front office. The next few months are sure to be entertaining for those who like roster building. If you didn’t see your preferences mentioned in the polls, share them in the comments below.
