Spurs sign Nathan Mensah to training camp deal
The second-year pro gets a chance on an exhibit 10 contract.
After agreeing to deals with Riley Minix and David Duke Jr. over the last week, the San Antonio Spurs have made another deal that rounds out the team heading into training camp. On Monday, the Spurs signed big man, Nathan Mensah to an exhibit 10 contract, meaning he will join the team for training camp in September.
The 26-year-old Mensah was a starter in all six of his games for the Spurs Summer League team. Despite being just 6-foot-9, Mensah brought rim protection with a ton of energy at the center position. He averaged 7.3 points, 7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and a block in Las Vegas. He will give the Spurs another high-motor big man to get a long look at for the rest of the offseason.
Mensah, an undrafted free agent, played 25 games with the Charlotte Hornets last season. He averaged 1.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in 12.6 minutes per game. Mensah was a 5-year player at San Diego State and a starter on the 2023 team that made the NCAA Championship against UCONN. He averaged 6.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks throughout his collegiate career. He was a 2-time MWC Defensive Player of the Year.
With the signing of Mensah, the Spurs have 19 players on its current roster. They are allowed to take 21 players into training camp. Once the regular season starts, the roster must be trimmed to 15 players. Mensah and other training camp invitees will look to secure a two-way roster spot, or stick around and play for the Austin Spurs this season.
