Open Thread: The Spurs could bring Boban Marjanovic back
The Spurs have a roster spot, a shortage of big men, and a fan favorite who is currently available
Before Wembanyama…before Mamukelashvili…we all struggled to spell Marjanovic. Boban Marjanovic to be specific.
The 7’4” Serbian basketball player, got his start in the NBA in 2015 with the San Antonio Spurs. After one season, the Detroit Pistons offered him an obscene amount of money to move to Michigan, their second consecutive year pilfering Spurs big men.
After two seasons in the Motor City, he spent time with the Clippers and a few months in Philly bonding with his BFF Tobias Harris. He later moved on to the Dallas Mavericks for three seasons and then two with the Houston Rockets.
Marjanovic is currently playing in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) with the Zhejiang Lions.
With the sidelining of Wemby and Charles Bassey still out with a knee injury, signing a big man for the remainder of the season could be a solid move for the Silver & Black.
Bringing back someone who knows the team and has a great attitude might also be a good use of resources as the Spurs determine what remains of the season. With the acquisition of De’Aaron Fox and vets Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes still on the roster, maintaining morale without Wemby on the court may play large role heading into the offseason.
While Boban was in San Antonio, he was a fan favorite, but he has proved to be a crowd-pleaser and positive influence wherever he has landed, even when it’s on an opposing court.
Chic-Fil-A for everyone!
