Nifty passing by the Silver & Black will elevate their game this season

Last season, the Spurs had 2,449 assists.

They were only second to Indiana Pacers.

Tre Jones was the top dish man for the Silver & Black, coming in eighteenth overall in the NBA for the regular season. But Jones was the only member of Spurs in the top fifty, meaning that it truly was a team effort.

The top assist man in the league last year was Tyrese Halliburton with 10.9 per game. By comparison, Jones averaged 6.2 while Devin Vassell, the next highest Spur, averaged 4.1 dimes. No other player on the Spurs averaged above 4 assists per game.

Since the Popovich era began, there has been a consorted effort to share the ball, a key to their success and longevity. Year after year, they prove statistically that the more they share the ball, the more games they win.

Although last season was an outlier to that theory, it will remain historic as Wemby’s first year and most likely the upswing of their pendulum swing.
