Johnson is a big fan of boxing, so much so that last autumn he served as a commentator to the “Brawl Or Nothing” boxing event.
Keldon has been working out with boxing coach Ronnie Cantu. Both Cantu and Johnson have ties to San Antonio boxing legend Jesse James Leija.
The former Kentucky Wildcat has seen at boxing events in San Antonio, is a fan of San Antonio boxer Mario Barrios, and supports him at his fights.
It’s an interesting take on how athlete’s merge offseason fitness with a personal passion, similar to Tim Duncan’s workouts with Jason Echols of Echols Fitness, now Xen Wellness. Duncan credited the Game 1 win in the 2014 NBA Finals to his kickboxing training. When the air conditioning went out at the (then) AT&T Center, Duncan’s body was able to handle the heat due to training in a facility which, at the time, had no air conditioning. He was in prime athletic shape even considering his age due to the physical and mental preparation of his training.
Some NBA stars play golf or tennis, yet some mix it up in the ring.
It will be interesting to see what shape Keldon is in when he returns to the court.
