Open Thread: Harrison and Brittany Barnes donated $250,000 to AlamoPROMISE

The couple’s generosity will support many students accomplish the dream of a college education

The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind. Since coming back from the All-Star Break, we first learned the news of Victor Wembanyama’s deep vein thrombosis causing him to be out for the rest of the season. Then Pop made his announcement about not returning to coaching this year.

In a time full of headlines, some things get missed. Especially when they aren’t court related, but file this one under selfless acts of kindness.

Harrison Barnes and his wife Brittany donated $250,000 to the AlamoPROMISE scholarship program.

The check presentation took place two weeks ago on Tuesday, February. 18, 2025, at a press event attended by St. Philip’s College students. In attendance were San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston, and Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores.

AlamoPROMISE offers tuition-free to their five community college campuses:

  • Northeast Lakeview College
  • Northwest Vista College
  • Palo Alto College
  • San Antonio College
  • St. Philip’s College

AlamoPROMISE offers graduating seniors in Bexar County the opportunity to pursue higher education without the financial burden. This “last-dollar” scholarship covers tuition and required fees after financial aid awards are applied for up to three years or until the completion of an associate degree or academic certificate, whichever comes first.

Barnes, who has only been in San Antonio since summer, has already embraced the city and is spreading goodwill in the community.

Check out this video post where Barnes speaks about the value of his donation.
