Open Thread: Dwyane Wade compares Victor Wembanyama’s monster dunk to Space Jam
The Spurs big man demonstrates his ability on the international stage
The French national men’s basketball team, featuring San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama, won their first Olympic game against Brazil yesterday.
As mentioned by Jacob Douglas, Wemby dominated. In particular, there was one dunk that got everyone’s attention.
Check out this tweet with the rotating camera angle.

Dwayne Wade, who made his game-calling debut at these Paris Olympics, alongside commentator Noah Eagle said that Wemby’s dunk was like something out of Space Jam.
3 Ps & A Pod posted a comparison shot.
Wemby channels his inner Space Jam with an unbelievable dunk at the Olympics! Witness the jaw-dropping moment as he defies gravity and delivers a dunk that seems straight out of a movie. #Wemby #DunkOfTheYear #Paris2024 pic.twitter.com/FDCmAWIhNi

Because of Wemby’s length, the exaggerated Space Jam shot reveals an astute comparison.
Last summer, just after Victor Wembanyama was drafted by the Spurs, he was referred to as “a basketball alien” by LeBron James. When asked what real basketball player line-up could beat the animated Monstars, the rogue AI team team from Space Jam: A New Legacy, Wemby revealed a consummate list of GOATs.
I asked Victor Wembanyama, who has been called “a basketball alien” by LeBron James, to give me a lineup that could beat The Monstars to save the planet.
His response was humble and phenomenal.
