Open Thread: Carmelo Anthony calls Victor Wembanyama “an evolution of Durant”
Wembanyama just might be improving upon the skillset one of the greatest to ever play the game
Yesterday, Marilyn posted a great article regarding how Victor Wembanyama has looked up to Kevin Durant in hopes of stealing “one or two of his secret techniques.”
Though there are similarities, Wemby is already a far better defender than Durant.
Carmelo Anthony, who had a court side seat for the gold medal game, believes Wemby is the natural expansion of Kevin Durant.
“What we seeing now with Wemby… It’s an evolution of Durant, KD… You talking about the mold of KD, 6’ 10”-6’ 11” can handle, can shoot, a sniper, a killer. You get what I’m saying? That’s the mold.”
Melo also pontificated about his career. After being asked if he would trade his Olympic gold medals for an NBA championship, Anthony easily stated, “no.”
“A medal means something totally different than an NBA championship… It’s the passion. It’s the pride…for a whole country.”
Stephen A. Smith called his admission “utterly ridiculous.”

What do you think, Pounders? Is it better to win on the biggest stage the sport has to offer, or more impressive to win at the international level?
Remember, Melo has three gold medals and was asked if he would trade all three for one title. I’m willing to bet he’d trade one gold medal for one title, but all three? That’s a tall order.
Or — and I can’t believe I have to actually ask this — is Stephen A. right?
I guess when it all boils down, player by player, it’s in the eye of the beholder.
