Medhi Ouamri’s bicycle kick silences 10-man Revolution II

FOXBOROUGH, MA— The New England Revolution II (3-2-6, 13 pts.) were defeated 1-0 versus Chattanooga FC (6-4-2, 25 pts.) on Saturday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 7:00 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The team started their lineup in a 4-3-3 formation with goalkeeper Max Weinstein starting in the net with a backline of (left back) Damario McIntosh, (center backs) Victor Souza and Santiago Suarez, along with (right back) Hesron Barry. The midfield consisted of Lucas Maciel (left), Patrick Leal (center), and Eric Klein (right). The forward roles were manned by Malcolm Fry (left), Gevork Diarbian (right), and Andrej Bjelajac (central) as the lone striker.

Defender Victor Souza wore the captain’s armband.

First team players Santiago Suarez and Malcolm Fry started the match.

The match kicked off with Chattanooga starting from the center circle. They quickly elected to launch the ball into New England’s defensive third to begin the match.

New England’s first chance came in just the 3rd minute when Patrick Leal’s corner kick attempt was flicked on and cleared.

Chattanooga’s first effort came in the 10th minute when a flicked header from a corner kick went just wide of the back post.

Malcolm Fry had a fantastic opportunity in the 19th minute when he took on two players and took a left-footed shot that was saved by goalkeeper #15 Jean Gamain Antoine.

Entering the 28th minute, New England had yet another clear opportunity when Damario McIntosh’s delivery into the area found Gevork Diarbian, but his effort was saved.

Chattanooga’s first major opportunity came in the 31st minute when forward #9 Mehdi Ouamri’s right-footed shot was met with a catch save by goalkeeper Max Weinstein

In the 43rd minute, Chattanooga defender #22 Milo Garvanian was issued a yellow card for fouling Andrej Bjelajac.

New England had the last chance of the half when Malcolm Fry’s left-footed curling effort was deflected just over the crossbar.

After the 45 minutes, the match entered halftime level at 0-0.

Prior to the start of the second half, Chattanooga head coach Rod Underwood made his change of the match by replacing forward #71 Jalen James with forward #11 Taylor Gray.

The second half kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and quickly playing it into Chattanooga’s defensive third.

Just one minute into the second half, Gevork Diarbian had a long-distance effort that was met with a diving save by goalkeeper #15 Jean Gamain Antoine.

Entering the 56th minute, Revolution head coach Richie Williams made his two changes of the match by replacing Malcolm Fry and Andrej Bjelejac with Liam Butts and Braedon Smith.

New England’s next chance came in the 57th minute when Gevork Diarbian’s effort was sent over the crossbar.

Less than one minute later, Chattanooga defender #22 Milo Garvanian’s effort went just high over the crossbar.

In the 62nd minute, Revolution defender Santiago Suarez was issued a yellow card for fouling Chattanooga forward #9 Mehdi Ouarmi.

New England’s next chance came in the 64th minute when Gevork Diarbian’s effort was blocked wide of the left post.

In the 72nd minute, Revolution defender Santiago Suarez was issued a second yellow card for impeding midfielder #33 Alex McGrath. Due to this, New England would play the final 18 minutes with 10 men.

Chattanooga defender #22 Milo Garvanian then delivered a ball into the penalty area that was headed over the crossbar.

In the 75th minute, Revolution head coach Richie Williams made his next two changes of the match by replacing Gevork Diarbian and Patrick Leal with Luka Borovic and Moshtaba Al-Hasnawi.

In the 79th minute, Chattanooga head coach Rod Underwood made his first change of the match by replacing midfielder #8 Andrés Jiménez for forward #18 Min-jae Kwak.

In the 80th minute, Chattanooga took the 1-0 lead.

Following a header across the box by midfielder #25 Jude Arthur, the ball was met by forward #9 Medhi Ouamri, who went and scored a bicycle kick finish the ball past Max Weinstein for the 1-0 advantage.

In the 86th minute, Chattanooga midfielder #33 Alex McGrath was issued a yellow card.

New England’s next chance came in the 88th minute when midfielder Liam Butts’ effort was saved by goalkeeper #15 Jean Gamain Antoine.

In the 90+2 minute, Chattanooga forward #9 Medhi Ouamri was issued a yellow card.

Chattanooga then had two chances in quick succession that went just wide of the net on both occasions.

After the 90+4 minutes, the match ended with the Chattanooga winning 1-0.

With the result, New England fall to 12th in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Standings.

Richie Williams and the New England Revolution II (3-2-6, 13 pts.) are off to face Eastern Conference side Columbus Crew 2 (4-2-5, 15 pts.)
