Las Vegas Summer League Game Thread: San Antonio Spurs vs Toronto Raptors
The Spurs play a final practice game in Las Vegas as Summer League comes to a close
Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
Usually for a game thread, I try to hype the matchup and mention a few things to increase interest. That’s not necessary tonight, because tonight’s game is like the cold pizza you find in the back of the refrigerator that you don’t remember putting away. It’s probably bad, but you’re really hungry, and how bad could it be? A minute or so in the microwave might kill the germs.
This is a matchup between two games that failed at Summer League, and were given another 40 minutes to spin their wheels in front of a dwindling and mostly hung over crowd. This is officially a consolation game, but the biggest consolation is that the Spurs 2024 Summer League will be over when the final buzzer sounds. As bad as that is, there will be a few things worth looking for tonight:
- Will there be another breakout performance from players looking to secure a bigger role in San Antonio and/or Austin. Will Riley Minix or Donovan Williams show that they deserve a shot in training camp?
- Will Sidy Cissoko get past the passive play which has rendered him mostly invisible in Las Vegas and Sacramento? He’s only a couple of months removed from major surgery, but tonight would be a good night for him to show he can dominate at this level.
- Can Jamaree Bouyea continue to be the Summer Spurs leader on the court and win a bigger role in San Antonio with his solid Summer League play?
Game Prediction:
The fourth quarter will be canceled due to lack of interest.
One final word:
Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
