Las Vegas Summer League Game Thread: San Antonio Spurs vs New Orleans Pelicans
The surprisingly undefeated Spurs look to extend their winning streak in Vegas
Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The Spurs have been winning in Vegas almost in spite of themselves. After Stephon Castle was ruled out with a minor wrist injury, the spunky Spurs have been keeping it rolling behind the sparkling guard play of Jamaree Bouyea along with tough inside play from unheralded and undersized bigs like Nathan Mensah. This team didn’t know it was supposed to lose to a talented squad led by first overall pick Zaccharie Risacher, and beat the Hawks 79-76 despite a somewhat messy finish to the game.
Tonight the surging Silver and Black face the winless Pelicans, who feature their first round pick Yves Missi, who has been playing pretty well in Sin City. Will Mensah be able to contain Missi? Let’s watch and find out. This game is a late start, so you might want to brew up some fresh coffee for the second half. The Spurs will have a few days off after tonight, their next game will be on Friday against the Sixers. There will be additional game(s) after that, but the Spurs won’t know the schedule until the league figures out which teams will make the Vegas playoffs. Even if the Silver and Black doesn’t advance, there will be consolation games next weekend for teams to get some additional practice with their squads.
Game Prediction:
In honor of the second consecutive game against a NBA team named after a bird, Sidy Cissoko will take flight from the free throw line and dunk on a Pelican.
One final word:
Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
