A fire at a Northeast Side factory is under control on Monday afternoon after San Antonio firefighters had to contend with 1,000 gallons of spilled chemicals.
Woody Woodward, a public information officer with the San Antonio Fire Department, said the fire started before noon at a factory that refurbishes airplane parts in the 3600 block of Highpoint Street. The factory isn’t far from Wurzbach Parkway and Nacogdoches Road.
About 100 employees were evacuated, and no one was injured, Woodward said.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
Woodward said firefighters had to contend with 500 gallons of sodium hydroxide and 500 gallons of hydrochloric acid.
There’s no threat to the public, he said, and the chemicals were “heavily diluted” due to the amount of water used to fight the fire.
The fire was extinguished.
SAFD will remain at the scene until the company’s remediation team takes over the cleanup efforts, Woodward said.
